Video Chat With Japanese Speakers
Meet people from Japan in seconds. Free, no signup — just open the page and start talking face to face.
What this page is for
If you are learning Japanese, or you want to practise speaking with someone who actually uses Japanese every day, a text app will only get you so far. You need to hear the rhythm of the sentence, see the facial expression that comes with it, and get corrected while the conversation is still happening. That is what live video gives you and what a messaging app cannot. On MyCamy you can start a live camera-to-camera conversation with someone from Japan without installing anything. The page opens in your browser, you allow camera access, and you are talking. There is no account to create and nothing to pay.
Who you will meet
The people on the other side are a mix of two groups, and both are worth meeting:
- Japanese people practising English. They already know they need to speak more, and they get the same benefit you do — a real conversation with someone who needs to hear Japanese.
- Learners of Japanese at various levels. Some are beginners, some are intermediate. You can set your own level in the conversation and adapt.
Because both sides benefit, conversations tend to last longer than you would expect. A five-minute awkward hello is the exception, not the rule.
How to make the conversation actually useful
A few things that make a big difference when the goal is language practice:
- Start with a concrete topic. "What did you do today?" gets you a real answer; "Tell me about Japan" gets you a rehearsed speech.
- Ask for repetition in a friendly way. Saying a phrase twice, slowly, is normal in language exchange and nobody will find it rude.
- Use the camera, not just the voice. Seeing someone gesture while they explain something is where comprehension clicks.
- Correct gently, and accept correction gracefully. This is a normal part of the exchange, not an insult.
- Write down words you missed. A screenshot of the chat or a note afterwards is how vocabulary sticks.

Question
Answer
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Camera and microphone permissions are the only requirement.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can start talking immediately.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no charge for starting a video chat.
Can I speak English instead of Japanese?
Absolutely. Most people on both sides switch languages freely during the conversation.
What if the connection is bad?
Video quality adapts to your connection. If it gets rough, switching to audio-only for a moment usually fixes it.
Is it safe?
You control when you start and when you stop. End any conversation that makes you uncomfortable — no explanation needed.
How old do I have to be?
You must be 18 or older.
A short conversation that works
If you are nervous about the first ten seconds, this structure works almost every time:
- Greeting — "Hello! Good evening." A nod and a smile do most of the work here.
- One easy question — "How was your day?" Something with a short answer to start.
- One longer question — "What is something you did recently that you enjoyed?"
- Reciprocate — answer it yourself. Conversation is a loop, not an interview.
- Close — exchange LINE or email if you got on well, and say goodbye properly.
That is five beats. You do not need more than that to have a real conversation.
